Paul Heaton & Jacqueline Abbott: Crooked Calypso - 2017
Up next was this one, which again makes use of a myriad of musical styles to back Heaton’s issue-driven lyrics. Of the four albums, however, this is the one that grabs me the least, although I can’t really put my finger on why that should be. After all, it is a really impressive quartet and none are really that much better or worse than the others. Highlights are She Got The Garden, He Can’t Marry Her, I Gotta Praise, The Fat Man, Your Bit Of Stuff and the Irish-influenced Blackwater Banks.
