Marvin Gaye: In Our Lifetime - 1981
The drugs had taken even more effect on Marvin Gaye on this almost completely-overlooked album.
It is a fine precursor to 1982’s Midnight Love - an appealing mix of disco party numbers like Love Party and Funk Me and sexy smoochers like Love Me Now Or Love Me Later and the Stevie Wonder riff-borrowing and name-checking Praise.
The excellent opener, the tongue-in-cheek Ego Tripping Out, was not on the original album but was added at a later date. I have to say that this is one of the great forgotten albums and is one that I enjoy every time I listen to it.
