The Intruders: Save The Children - 1970

The Intruders were one of Philadelphia International's lesser-known acts and they had been knocking around since 1970.

Most of this, their second album, is made up of typical mid-seventies slick soul ballads - think The Manhattans, The Natural Four or The Originals. All immaculately sung, but nothing to really make you sit up and take notice. From its title you might imagine it was a socially-conscious album, but that is not the case.

Memories Are Here To Stay is probably the best of the tracks, however. I'll Always Love My Mama is cheesy but also upbeat and enjoyable -especially the spoken bits at the end - and their slowed-down cover of Paul Simon's Mother And Child Reunion is an interesting interpretation of the song.

Hang On In There and the group's only hit single (Win, Place Or Show) She's A Winner are the album's best two tracks. The Harold Melvin-esque latter song stands out a mile. The rear cover is a bit bizarre though.
