Luciano: Where Is Life - 1995

Luciano was another artist heavily influenced by Garnett Silk and this album was an example of the nineties return to roots themes, albeit against a light, digital backing. 

Luciano is a singer, not a rapper, and he proves it throughout the album. 

These are proper songs, sung by a proper singer, not a dancehall DJ. He has a nice, clear, melodic voice and his concerns lyrically are faith and spirituality as opposed to any crude slackness or braggadocio. 

Notable tracks are the catchy It's Me Again Jah, the UB40-ish Lord Give Me StrengthGood God, the beautifully bassy Who Could It Be, the catchy Your World And MineThere's No Love In The World and Heaven Help Us AllThe album's theme is something of a What's Going On one. 

This crop of nineties reggae offerings are far more listenable than the Shaggy, Capleton and Shabba Ranks ones, particularly Garnett Silk and Luciano. It is quite reassuring that in the midst of all the gun glorification and slack, demeaning sex talk righteous roots concerns had returned strongly.
